• VO (Biochemie) Biologische Chemie I (Biological Chemistry I in German language; Bachelor curriculum)
  Content: prebiotic chemistry; structure and function of proteins, DNA, and carbohydrates; genetic information; DNA replication; mechanism of transcription and translation; lipids and membrane function; mechanism of enzymes; Michaelis-Menten kinetics; basic concepts of metabolism; glycolysis and gluconeogenesis; fatty acid metabolism; amino acid metabolism; citric acid cycle; electron transport chains and oxidative phosphorylation; photosynthesis; urea cycle
• VU The Chemistry of Microbial Interactions (in English language; Master curriculum)
  Content: This lecture provides a comprehensive understanding of central concepts and principles in the chemistry of microbial interactions which are being explained by diverse examples. Hereby the lecture bridges microbiology and organic chemistry. Topics include: coordinated social behaviour of microbes (biofilms, motility, etc); microbial quorum sensing signals and regulation pathways; toxins and antibiotics quorum quenching; siderophores and iron scavenging mechanisms; dormancy and resuscitation; surfactants; microbe-phage interactions; microbe-host interactions (human, animal, plant)
  
  
• Organic Chemistry for Biologists (in German language; Bachelor curriculum)
  Content: chemical formulas and structures; chemical bonding types; nomenclature; isomerism; stereochemistry; structure and reactivity of major compound classes: alkanes, alkenes, alkynes; alcohols; ethers and thiols; cylcoalkanes; aldehydes and ketones; carbohydrates; carboxylic acids and derivatives; amines and amino acids; peptides and proteins; aromatic compounds; heterocycles; biologically reactive electrophiles; nucleophilic substitutions (SN1/SN2); radical reactions; mesomerism; tautomerism; inductive effects; acid-base reactions, pH and pKa
